Regardless of one’s personal accomplishments, wealth, education, social position, the first qualification for being normal is being white. Normalcy for the European American is underscored in almost every aspect of daily life. The majority of media commercials depict European Americans using, doing, or being whatever is normal for America. When an ethnic Americans are depicted, the reactions is usually one of view them as an exception. Normalcy and privilege goes hand in hand in many instances.

What America did with respect to color was to make the color white symbolize superiority, normalcy, privilege, correctness, standard values and Christian values. The only other color of concern was black. America made this color represent the opposite of white. Since the premise of all this activity was not based in fact, it was myth, false. However, when society conducted itself as if all those assumptions were correct, then the acceptance of them became a matter of routine. In addition, when the term race was added to the color white, the results was a mixture of a superior human being created by nature and/or God.
