It seems more intuitive to expect more disfluencies in ESLA children, at least in their new second language, than in BFLA children who usually (in 3/4 of the cases; see above) have had experience with speaking two languages from early on. In conclusion, in the assessment of possible disfluency disorders in young bilingual children under age 6, the length of time of exposure to each language and children’s levels of proficiency in each language are to be taken into account.
