Some special schools are devoted to children with specific disabilities, for example, visual and hearing impairments, autism, cerebral palsy, while others cater for children with multiple physical and cognitive impairments. Schools may be public or private in terms of funding and administration, and hence different administrative frameworks will be encountered in terms of gaining access to students for research purposes. Government schools may have area or state boards that have to be approached, while private schools and preschools may be associated with religious or other charitable institutions and will have their own administrative structures that need to be negotiated.
