Sediments are also transported by wind (aeolian sediments) and glaciers (glacial sediments). For example, desert sand and loess (deposits of silt—sediment with particles 2–64 mm in diameter) are examples of aeolian transport and deposition. Glacial moraine deposits and till are ice transported sediments—the moraine is a deposit of such material left on the ground by a glacier—also a ridge, mound, or irregular mass of unstratified glacial drift, chiefly boulders, gravel, sand, and clay. Simple gravitational collapse also creates sediments such as talus (a deposit of material left on the ground by a glacier) and mountain-slide deposits as well as karst collapse features—karst is formed from the dissolution of soluble rocks such as limestone, dolomite, and gypsum and is characterized by underground drainage systems with sinkholes and caves.

The continuation of such reserve re-evaluation depends upon the rate of extraction on the one hand and, on the other, the re-evaluation of original probable reserves or possible reserves to the category of proven reserves. The re-evaluation of the reserve numbers upward is especially true if new information arising from the production process shows that the physical size of the reservoir available for exploitation and development is greater than first indicated leading to a re-evaluation of the volumes of oil and gas reserves in all categories.
