In PLAX the true left ventricular apex is usually not seen; the apparent apex is in fact the result of an oblique angulation through the anterolateral wall. The aortic root, with the sinuses of Valsalva, the sinotubular junction, and the most proximal part of the ascending aorta is on the right side of the image.
