The superiority of the case study strategy in this situation relates to the importance in this research of qualitative, as opposed to quantitative, research methods.
Handling the evidence The approach in this study has been, first, to analyse the existing theories of strategy formulation process in order to expose differences of opinion. Case studies from the military and business fields were written from secondary and primary sources to exemplify the processes in action. Although the accounts of what happened were recorded as objectively as possible, the cases were written with this study in mind, and to that extent were biased towards the research questions.
