At the same time, however, the demands on his time increased with his growing literary fame. In fact, King Henry VIII made Thomas More one of his most important servants. A king such as Henry VIII 51 52 Thomas More had many servants in his palace. Some of them washed dishes. Others prepared meals or made beds. Still others, such as the king’s fool, were there purely for the king’s amusement.
