As we test we will generate data about the status of the system that we can report to stakeholders and we report any problems we find to the development team for investigation and, if appropriate, correction.
Alpha/beta testing When requirements are difficult to define or deliberately open-ended, a conventional contract acceptance may not be possible. In this case some form of ‘testing in use’ may be done. Alpha testing would be conducted at the developers’ premises and beta testing would be at the customers’ premises. The actual testing may be based on specific activities but more often is left to the users’ discretion. For obvious reasons this is seldom used for custom-built systems, but may be used for releases of commercial products to the marketplace.
